CALL TO ORDER:  STC President, Dick Partridge, called this Special Board meeting to order at 2:45 pm.

Dick had scheduled the meeting at the request of Bob Lewis, a SaddleBrooke tennis professional to discuss the possible STC Board involvement and review of his list of desired rules for his teaching of Tennis 1-2-3.

See attached request sheet, “Recommended Rules and Procedures For Tennis Instruction”, written by Bob Lewis.  All Board members were present.

Board discussion of Bob’s nine bulleted areas of request ensued with the Board asking for some clarification on each of his bulleted items.  The Board decided that it had jurisdiction over only the first sentence of the first bullet in the proposal.  Board members also explained to Bob that the HOA#1 and 2 Tennis Boards had already approved his request for the 1-2-3 program for May and October and that times and courts are to be verified with the Senior Coordinator.  The approval was for six months and that all requests would be for six months and must be renewed twice a year.  Also explained to Bob Lewis was that his request for a dedicated teaching court had been denied by the HOA#1 and #2 Tennis Committees and also that his pupils must reserve a court in their names and inform the coordinator that it is for a lesson. Further, his pupils could request a court during the third session, provided one is available and that they would be afforded the same procedure as any other player and that if a lottery had to be utilized to decide which players obtain courts, they will be included in that lottery.  Further, the same restrictions would apply as before:  there would be no lessons adjacent to organized play, USTA matches or any other event that might be compromised.

A motion was made to not recommend further changes to the HOA#1 or HOA#2 Tennis Committees on this matter.  Motion passed 4 – 1.

Meeting adjourned at 3:35 pm.                               Respectfully submitted,  Marje Valenti, STC Secretary

Ø      One court is available to one tennis professional to teach tennis beginning with the start of the third session of prime time hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.  One additional adjacent court is available on the same day and hours for two weeks in February, May, and October for USA Tennis 1-2-3 classes.

Ø      Each USA Tennis 1-2-3 program has six sessions, with twice-a-week classes meeting for 3 consecutive weeks.  The last two classes use a single court with a ball machine.

Ø      A maximum of 12 weekly 1-2-3 classes are permitted in any week.  All classes may be scheduled in advance after clearance from the lead coordinator that court(s) are available.

Ø      The one teaching professional must have prior written contracts with HOA#1 and HOA#2 before he or she can teach tennis.

Ø      Follow-on to 1-2-3 small clinic instruction classes on one court may be scheduled in advance by the same instructor.  Many of these continue on a month-to-month basis.  Court availability will be cleared with the lead coordinator.

Ø      If for any reason, including sickness or vacation, the tennis professional will not be available to teach, the lead coordinator will be notified and the hours the one court usually is available for teaching will be used for other tennis programs.

Ø      All 5 MountainView courts are considered non-adjacent courts.  Additional tennis professionals may teach on these courts beginning with the 3rd prime-time session.

Ø      Before any additional professional may teach, the professional must have a signed contract with HOA#2.  SaddleBrooke residents taking such lessons must reserve courts for these lessons stating the court is for a lesson and the name of the instructor.

Ø      The lead coordinator must approve such requests from additional professionals after determining that the requested court is available, and is not already scheduled for other SaddleBrooke resident uses such as STC socials, tournaments, charity, league, team tennis, drop-in play, or instruction by the one SaddleBrooke professional.

                                          FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2006
